Saturday Morning Fencing

Jonah is the third one in. I found it challenging to shoot today because you aren't really allowed to move around the room much while the class is going on for obvious reasons.

This is the salute that you do at the end of fencing. I love fencing and the principles and tradition behind it. Currently they are finishing a Three Musketeer tournament where the point was to fence as many other fencers in the class over an extended period of weeks and to record the results. The winners, which will be announced next week, will be whomever fenced the most people not who won the most matches. They do this to encourage the more experienced fencers to fence the less experienced ones and vice versa.

What a cool building! Love the way the light comes through the windows in the second shot. There's something really wonderful about seeing your life through these photos. I have a much more complete view of your family, your artsy, east coast lifestyle. :)

Your kids look so much like YOU too Dalissa. Love that.

P.S. For other 365'ers: I clocked on her photos and they opened much larger in a new window. I suggest it. These photos really deserve a much bigger space. They are gorgeous.

Neat photos! I have a student who used to be one of the top 25 juniors in the nation at his level. He traveled all over the country to compete. His dad truly believed he would be an Olympian...he got a bit burned out and is now taking piano. He told me he doesn't want to tell his dad yet, but he is beginning to miss fencing. I like the self-disapline, the culture, the history, just everything about it! I tried for years to get Nathan or Athena to try it, now way.

Is Jonah left handed? They all look so serious. Good thing, I guess. :) Fun!

Three out my four kids have taken fencing. I agree that it's a cool sport. Love the building and light in these photos.

Julie (and everyone else)I love seeing your life, too. And, with this project I feel like I am giving everyone a tour of my home and a glimpse into my family life. The funny thing is that while I am finding beauty and recording what's important to me, I am also finding that I could easily post sad or negative photos especially because of all of the development taking place in my county. I've lived here since I was 12 and it saddens me everytime I drive to see what farmland has been sold and what has been replaced with. I took photos a couple days ago where the drivein theater used to be but is now replaced with a Target and Loews. Granted a drive in theater is still "development" but it was a place where families could easily be together with all of ages of children without paying an arm and leg and with the flexibility needed to take a toddler and infant and teen to a movie.

Yes, Jonah is left-handed and yes, the class is quite serious. In fact, this class is the first time I've heard adult instructors yell at the top of their lungs at students... which can be disconcerting but at the same time, you can't replace an eye once it's been poked out which is a possibility if everyone is fully aware of their weapon and surroundings at all times.

I agree that the building is fantastic - I love exposed brick! And I hear you about the drive-in (I used to go there!) and all the new developments going up. It seems even worse having seeing all the lovely old buildings in Rome.
